Our sailing program offers instruction in Optimists and 420s to sailors beginning at age 8 all the way through High School. Our sailing instructors and coaches are not only US Sailing Level I Certified, but also passionate about the sport of sailing. Our racing coaches are current and former High School and Collegiate sailors. Many of our junior sailors compete successfully in junior regattas and go on to sail in high school, college and beyond.
The mission of our sailing program is to teach junior sailors the basics of boat handling, seamanship and sportsmanship. The program strives to develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun environment. The success of our program is not measured in races won, but in the legacy of the love of the sport of sailing.
The tradition of junior sailing at Hingham Yacht Club is rich and storied. We are proud to have turned out generations of accomplished sailors, many of whom have won national honors and awards. We continue to build upon that tradition today by teaching seamanship and sportsmanship in the hope that all of our juniors will become life-long sailors.
Our swimming program offers group lessons beginning at age 4 using the American Red Cross swimming curriculum. All of our swimming instructors are WSI certified, and several are former or current members of their High School and Collegiate swim teams. The goal of our swimming program is to teach swimming skills in a fun and safe environment so that our juniors will gain competence and confidence in and on the water.
The Junior program is open to members only. For more information, contact ProgramDirector@HinghamYachtClub.com.
