Swimming

Our swimming program offers group lessons beginning at age 4 using the American Red Cross swimming curriculum.  All of our swimming instructors are WSI certified, and several are former or current members of their high school and collegiate swim teams.  The goal of our swimming program is to teach swimming skills in a fun and safe environment so that our juniors will gain competence and confidence in and on the water.  Our lifeguards are generally on duty at the swimming crib Monday-Friday 11:00AM-6:00PM and Weekends 12:00PM-6:00PM with some exceptions for weather or other conditions.  Always be sure a lifeguard is on station before swimming in the crib.

Lifejacket Test

All juniors who have not passed the Lifejacket Test are required to a wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejacket at all times on the Yacht Club premises.  Any junior age 6 or older may take the Lifejacket Test.  To pass the Lifejacket Test, a swimmer must be able to: (1) swim two lengths of the crib unassisted wearing long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and shoes; (2) tread water for two minutes while fully clothed; (3) put on a lifejacket by themselves while in the water; and (4) swim two more lengths of the crib wearing your lifejacket.  Regardless of whether a junior has passed the Lifejacket Test or not, a US Coast Guard approved lifejacket must be worn at all times on any water vessel, including kayaks and paddle boards.
